Custom Washers — Flat, Spring & Special Washers

What this part is and where it is used

Custom washers are thin, generally unthreaded discs placed under a nut or bolt head to spread load, protect the part surface and, in the case of lock washers, resist loosening. They are machined to your drawing, so the inside and outside diameters, thickness and material are set by the print. A washer fastener does its work by sitting in the load path — between the nut and the surface, or between the bolt head and the surface.

Buyers order custom washers when a standard flat washer does not fit: a specific ID/OD ratio, an unusual thickness, a spring form, or a material such as brass, titanium or 316L. They are usually specified as fasteners and washers sets alongside matching parts from our custom nuts and custom bolts pages.

Types of custom washers we manufacture

We machine the common types of washers to print:

• Flat washers — plain discs for load spreading and surface protection.
• Spring and lock washers — split or formed forms that hold tension and resist loosening.
• Fender washers — large outside diameters for thin or oversized holes.
• Shim washers — precise thicknesses for spacing and alignment.
• Threaded washers — special forms with an internal thread for particular assemblies.

Steel washers, stainless washers and shim sets are our most common requests. A hex washer, a special lock washer or a shim stack cut to ±0.01 mm is one drawing away — we machine the disc from bar or plate rather than blanking a stock size.

Materials, threads and finishes

Common materials are aluminium (6061, 7075), stainless steel (303, 304, 316L), carbon and alloy steel (1045, 1215, 4140), brass and copper, and titanium. Most washers are unthreaded, but a threaded washer follows metric or inch references per your print — see our thread standards guide. Finishing runs through our vetted partner network under one quality process: zinc plating, black oxide, passivation and anodizing for aluminium. Inside diameter, outside diameter and thickness are all held to the print, so a shim stack stays consistent from part to part.
