What this part is and where it is used

Custom washers are thin, generally unthreaded discs placed under a nut or bolt head to spread load, protect the part surface and, in the case of lock washers, resist loosening. They are machined to your drawing, so the inside and outside diameters, thickness and material are set by the print. A washer fastener does its work by sitting in the load path — between the nut and the surface, or between the bolt head and the surface.

Buyers order custom washers when a standard flat washer does not fit: a specific ID/OD ratio, an unusual thickness, a spring form, or a material such as brass, titanium or 316L. They are usually specified as fasteners and washers sets alongside matching parts from our custom nuts and custom bolts pages.

Types of custom washers we manufacture

We machine the common types of washers to print:

  • Flat washers — plain discs for load spreading and surface protection.
  • Spring and lock washers — split or formed forms that hold tension and resist loosening.
  • Fender washers — large outside diameters for thin or oversized holes.
  • Shim washers — precise thicknesses for spacing and alignment.
  • Threaded washers — special forms with an internal thread for particular assemblies.

Steel washers, stainless washers and shim sets are our most common requests. A hex washer, a special lock washer or a shim stack cut to ±0.01 mm is one drawing away — we machine the disc from bar or plate rather than blanking a stock size.

Materials, threads and finishes

Common materials are aluminium (6061, 7075), stainless steel (303, 304, 316L), carbon and alloy steel (1045, 1215, 4140), brass and copper, and titanium. Metal washers for corrosion use stainless steel, while brass and copper suit conductivity and instrument work; see our stainless steel parts, aluminium parts, steel parts, brass and copper parts and titanium parts pages.

Most washers are unthreaded, but a threaded washer follows metric or inch references per your print — see our thread standards guide. Finishing runs through our vetted partner network under one quality process: zinc plating, black oxide, passivation and anodizing for aluminium. Inside diameter, outside diameter and thickness are all held to the print, so a shim stack stays consistent from part to part.

Industries and applications

Flat washers and lock washers appear in automotive, aerospace, medical, oil and gas and electronics hardware assemblies. Shim washers serve precision instruments and machine fixtures where alignment is set to the print.

Why order this part from our factory

We machine custom washers in our own factory in Qidong City, Jiangsu Province. General work is held to ISO 2768-m unless stated on the drawing, with precision features to ±0.01 mm. Orders start from 50 pieces; samples take 5–10 days and production 25–35 days. Monthly capacity runs over 100,000 parts, scheduled flexibly per order. Send a drawing and we return DFM feedback with a quote within 24 hours, then ship with a material certificate (MTR) and pre-shipment photos. WhatsApp us at +86 177 2151 9382 or use the quote form.

Frequently asked questions

What is the minimum order quantity for custom washers?

We start from 50 pieces per style and material, so a first run or shim set stays practical before you commit to production quantities.

What are your lead times?

Sample washers take 5–10 days and production runs take 25–35 days after drawing approval. We return DFM feedback with your quote within 24 hours.

What tolerances can you hold on a washer?

General work is machined to ISO 2768-m unless your drawing states otherwise, and precision features such as shim thickness are held to ±0.01 mm.

Which materials do you machine washers from?

Aluminium (6061, 7075), stainless steel (303, 304, 316L), carbon and alloy steel (1045, 1215, 4140), brass and copper, and titanium.

Can you make spring or lock washers?

Yes. We machine flat, spring, lock, fender and shim washers to print, including special forms and precise shim thicknesses.

Do you make threaded washers?

Yes — a threaded washer with an internal thread is one of the special forms we cut, with the thread held to [metric](/metric-fasteners/) or [inch](/inch-fasteners/) references as your drawing states.

Can you match a specific inside and outside diameter?

Yes. Every washer is machined to your drawing's ID, OD and thickness — we do not ask you to accept a stock size from a catalog.

Do you provide material certificates?

Every batch ships with a material certificate (MTR) for the raw material and pre-shipment photos of the finished parts before dispatch.

How do I get a quote for custom washers?

Upload your drawing (STEP, IGES, DWG, DXF or PDF) through the [quote form](/request-a-quote/) or send it on WhatsApp at +86 177 2151 9382. We reply with DFM feedback and a price within 24 hours.
